Vienna, Austria (AHN) – Fish oil supplements may ward of psychotic disorders in those prone to them, according to Austrian and Australian researchers. Scientists with the Medical University, Vienna and the Orygen Youth Health Research Centre in Melbourne conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of fish oil containing long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and its affect on those likely to develop mental disorders, like schizophrenia. For 12 weeks, 41 participants were given daily capsules of fish oil containing 1.2 grams of omega-3 polyunsaturated fat, and 40 were assigned a placebo

Boston, MA, United States (AHN) – Researchers say that running barefoot on hard surfaces could be more beneficial than running in sneakers or athletic footwear, according to reported findings. A study conducted jointly by researchers at Harvard University, the University of Glasgow and Moi University in Kenya reported runners with little to no footwear not only develop calluses on the bottom of their feet, but they also tend to avoid a motion known as “heel-striking.” Instead, they run with more bounce in their stride concentrated in the middle- and upper-foot area.
